On July 7, 2026, Volkswagen Group's connected-vehicle platform experienced an outage affecting Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT/CUPRA, and Audi vehicles in Europe. Smartcar saw two waves of elevated errors from VW's API: 09:00–10:00 UTC and 12:00–15:00 UTC, with peak impact between 13:00–14:00 UTC.
Elevated errors recurred on July 8 (10:00–11:00 UTC) and July 9 (05:00–12:00 UTC) as Volkswagen's platform stabilized. Service has operated normally since July 10, 00:00 UTC.
During the incident, customers may have experienced:
- Delayed or missing webhook events — charging and battery signals (e.g. state of charge) were temporarily unavailable, so scheduled webhook deliveries were reduced for affected vehicles. Data delivery resumed automatically as VW recovered. - Errors on live API requests — requests for charging, battery, and location data may have returned upstream errors; cached data remained available. - Failed charge commands — start/stop charging requests had a high failure rate during the peak window.
No action is required. Vehicle connections were not affected, and no re-authentication is needed.
